(1) Thank you to Allie D, Olivia D, Kelly M, Priya N, Amy R, Kate T, and Jordan V who gave up their Saturday to volunteer at GCRA's Midwest Masters Regatta.  Olivia marshaled and drove a referee launch.  Kate, Priya, Kelly, Allie, Amy, and Jordan all held stake boats.  In addition, Kate and Allie coxed boats for crews needing coxswains.  Kate won one gold and Allie won one gold and two silvers.  Alumni Steph Parrish also assisted by driving a referee launch.  Thank you girls for doing your part to help build good relations with the adult rowing club.

(2) Congratulations to our Team Award winners!  Awards were handed out at our annual banquet to the following athletes:
Coxswain:  Novice-Abbey M, Varsity-Allie D. 
Coach's Choice:  NW-Katarina B, NM-Alec G, VW-Amy R, VM-Will H. 
Rowing Excellence:  NW-Sarah V, NM-Brendan L, VW-Shifumi Terasaka, VM-Colin Richards 
Most Improved:  NW-Rachel M, NM-Scott Z, VW-Katie K, VM-Michael F. 
Squad Spirit:  NW-Cassie K, NM-Alec G, VW-Priya N, VM-Josh Cristina 

(3) Nationals is this coming weekend.  Qualifying heats race on Friday, June 13.  Finals are Sunday, June 15.  You can track the progress of the team's entries in real time at www.racetrak.com.  Shifumi Terasaka is rowing in the Varsity Women Single event.  Josh Cristina and Mike F are rowing in the Varsity Men Double event.  Jordan V., Kelly M., Michele Baeder, Amy R., Ariel Brown, Olivia Duckworth, Mariah H., Nicole Baeder, and Allie D. are rowing in the Varsity Women Lightweight Eight event.

(5) Summer Rowing starts in one week.  Participating athletes will meet mornings from 7 till 9, each weekday, beginning one week from tomorrow, on June 16.  We will row through the end of July and attend the Philadelphia Youth Regatta on July 26.  If you did not turn in your registration paperwork at the banquet, it's not too late to join.  Please download, complete and mail your paperwork to the P O Box or bring it with you the first day!  Remember, during summer you can join by the week rather than committing to the full season.  Greg Harvie will be coaching.
(6)  Learn to Row starts one week from tomorrow as well.  Registration Paperwork is here for the summer learn to row programs - SIBLINGS, FRIENDS WELCOME  The summer learn to row program is held one week each month and is open to any student athlete who is entering 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the fall.  It is held Monday through Friday from 6-8 in the evenings.  This program will be coached by Coach Tama Carleton.  Please encourage your friends to submit their registration today!
(7) Varsity Jacket and Unitard orders must be placed by June 30.   Order Form Here  If you will be moving up to varsity in the fall it is important that you do not miss this deadline.  This is the only order we will place before the Fall Season.  The unitard is mandatory to comply with US Rowing's uniform rule.  The jacket is optional.

(8) Would you like to represent the team at the Head of the Charles next fall?  Your preparation should begin now.  To be considered for placement in a Head of the Charles boat, you need to be a member of one of our varsity squads and must demonstrate:

For Women an Erg time below 18:00 minutes on 4k

For Men an Erg time below 23:00 minutes on 6K

If an eight qualifies:  Top 12 in weight adjusted erg results.   

If a four qualifies:  Top 8 in weight adjusted erg results.

Saturday, October 18, 2008- Head of the Tennessee (Knoxville) - overnight

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18th and 19tht - Head of the Charles (select varsity boats only)

Saturday, October 25 2008: Speakmon (Griggs) - day trip
Saturday, November 1-2nd - Head of the Hooch (Chattanooga) - overnight
